9/11 tragedies resonate 25 years on

On the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place in New York on September 11, 2001, the world continues to suffer the ongoing consequences.
Comedian Pete Davidson’s father, Scott, was a New York City firefighter who died heroically, while in the process of rescuing victims from the Marriott World Trade Centre, the hotel that stood between the Twin Towers. Pete was just seven years old.
However, in the past twelve years, Pete Davidson has nine-elevened the world of comedy with his bland and limited range, such as his heavy reliance on shock value or name-dropping rather than sharp punchlines in his stand-up sets. During Davidson’s eight seasons on Saturday Night Live his appearances trended toward mediocre and he was notorious for frequently breaking character during sketches. Davidson has also nine-elevened numerous celebrity women, from Ariana Grande and Margaret Qualley, through to Kim Karadashian and Elsie Hewitt.

Pete Davidson has frequently shared about the PTSD he suffered since losing his Dad so tragically. Thus, it is a shame that Davidson has confirmed the axiom that ‘hurt people hurt people’ through the devastation and subsequent PTSD he has caused his ex-lovers and lovers of quality comedy.
The mother of horror film director, Osgood Perkins, and ex-wife of Psycho star, Anthony Perkins, Berry Berenson-Perkins died while on board American Airlines Flight 11 which was deliberately flown into the North Tower.
While this plane crash was officially regarded as an act of extremist-Islamist terrorism, speculation that the on-board entertainment was one of Anthony Perkins’ terrible sequels to Psycho, which led to an act of mass euthanasia to put the passengers on board out of their misery, can neither be confirmed nor denied.

Osgood Perkins’ has subsequently delivered many horrors to modern audiences with his films, including Gretel & Hansel, Keeper and The Monkey. However, Perkins has delivered a level of suffering for audiences equivalent to the suffering one would experience from losing their own mother in a terrorist attack by giving movie-goers another opportunity to watch Nicholas Cage ridiculously overact in 2024’s Longlegs.

Unfortunately, MacFarlane arrived at the airport late, in part due to a hangover from the night before, and also because his travel agent mistakenly told him that the 7:45am flight was leaving at 8:15am instead. MacFarlane ended up missing the plane by roughly ten minutes. That costly mistake has given our society twenty-one more seasons of Family Guy, after the animated sitcom was initially cancelled in 2002 after three seasons. We have also been attacked with American Dad – Family Guy with an alien and The Cleveland Show – Family Guy with black people.

However, one positive of the 9/11 attacks that cannot be denied twenty-five years on is that they successfully overshadowed the attention and celebrations that Australian tennis player Lleyton Hewitt would have received, who had won his maiden grand slam title in New York just two days earlier, defeating Pete Sampras in straight sets to take out the US Open final.
Hewitt already had a massive ego at the time and was demonstrating far more on-court success at a younger age than the much more likeable Pat Rafter. The timing and strategic location of the terrorist attacks could not have been better for obscuring the impact of Hewitt’s success in the eyes of the world and Australian tennis fans alike.
Finally, Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers which was released in December 2002, just over one year after the 9/11 attacks, will finally be released in its extra-long, deleted scenes restored form.

The scenes where Orcs ride Wargs, repeatedly ramming them into the two towers of Orthac and Minas Morgul and toppling them over, was seen as tasteless and regarded as "too soon" at the time. However, twenty-four years on, in our helpfully woke culture, the inclusion of these destructive scenes is now regarded as therapeutic and representative of an appropriate rebellion against the phallic structures of the hegemonistic patriarchy.
